BREAKDOWN ON MILITANCY IN BENGAL: 4 ARRESTED FROM SEALDAH AND HOWRAH RAILWAY STATIONS

Monisha Mondal, Kolkata: A Special Task Force in Kolkata, acting on a credible source’s information arrested two members of Neo-JMB / IS (Islamic State) a banned Terror outfit. The accused hailing from Bangladesh were arrested from the vicinity of Sealdah Railway Station parking lot. A mobile phone was recovered from them containing Jihadi texts, books, photos and videos. The militants have been identified as Md. Jiaur Rahman (44) and Mamonur Rashid (33).

Pursuing to their statement, two other members of the same outfit were arrested from the vicinity of Howrah Railway Station and Jihadi Literature was seized from their possession on the early morning of Tuesday. The others accused have been identified as Md. Sahin Alam (23) from Bangladesh and Robiul Islam (35) from Birbhum in West Bengal.

The three arrested, hailing from Bangladesh reportedly took shelter in India to escape arrest and were further were involved in recruitment and collection of funds for organisation. The accused will be produced in court on Tuesday.

DOCTORS’ STRIKE LIFTED: TO RESUME SERVICES FROM TUESDAY

ANM News Desk: Junior Doctors in West Bengal have decided to resume their duty from Tuesday morning after calling off their week-long strike. At a meeting held at Nabanna on Moday evening, CM Mamata Banerjee accepted the proposal of the striking doctors’ to set up Grievance Redressal Cell in state-run hospitals.

DOCTORS OPEN TO TALK WITH MAMATA BANERJEE

ANM News Desk: Efforts are on to end the protests of doctors in West Bengal which entered the 7th day on Sunday.

The agitation began on Monday night when two junior doctors of NRS Hospital in Kolkata were injured in an attack.

Spokesperson of the junior doctors has that they are open to dialogue and are eagerly waiting to break the deadlock. They ar demanding an open discussion and have asked CM Mamata Benrjeee to visit NRS.

Pressure is on the State Government as Governor KN Tripathi had written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take immediate steps to provide security to the medicos and find out a solution to the impasse.

CENTRE SEEKS REPORT FROM MAMATA GOVERNMENT OVER GROWING VIOLENCE IN STATE

ANM News Desk: The Centre has sought a report from West Bengal government on measures taken to contain political violence and investigate such incidents of violence to book culprits. Mentioning the gradually increasing number of incidents of election-related and political violence and casualties over four years from 2016 to 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs in an advisory issued to the state government stated that “unabated violence over the years is evidently a matter of deep concern.”

HEALTH FACILITIES COLLAPSE IN WEST BENGAL

ANM News Desk: Protest by doctors which began in Kolkata on Tuesday has gained momentum all over the country on the fifth day. The protests have snowballed after Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee refused to acknowledge it in Kolkata’s NRS Medical College and Hospital and threatened the junior doctors with severe action if they didn’t end the agitation at once. Hundreds of doctors all over the states have tendered their resignation. 100 doctors, professors have joined protesters at the NRS hospital. They have refused to back down until their demands are met and further steps are taken to ensure safety of doctors.

ANM News Desk: The Election Commission has declared the poll held on May 19 at polling station number 200 of the North Kolkata parliamentary constituency as void.

Election Commission has directed re-poll to be held on May 22 from 7 am to 6 pm in the constituency.

BJP URGES ARMED FORCES TO BE PRESENT IN BENGAL, POST POLLING
