ANM News Desk: The US has banned visits by Myanmar’s Army Chief and three other top officers due to their role in the “ethnic cleansing” of the Rohingya minority.

TRUMP DECIDES NOT TO IMPOSE QUOTAS ON URANIUM IMPORTS

ANM News Desk: US President Donald Trump stated that he will not impose quotas on importing Uranium. The decision is surprising as Trump had pointed to national security concerns in calling for restrictions on foreign metal and autos in trade negotiations. Uranium is a vital component for the U.S. nuclear arsenal, submarines and power plants.

US needs 5% of Uranium for military and electricity generation which comes from domestic production. Russia, China and other countries supply the rest.

Trump stated that  he was going to order a working group to use 90 days to make recommendations to increase domestic uranium production.

US PASSES BILL TO LIFT INDIA’S CAP ON ISSUING GREEN CARDS

ANM News Desk: The US House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at lifting the present 7% country-cap on issuing Green Cards.

The move will benefit thousands of highly-skilled Indian IT professionals. A Green Card allows a person to live and work permanently in the US.

The bill, however, has to be passed by the Senate, wherein the Republicans enjoy a majority, before it can be signed into law by President Donald Trump.

US WARNS IRAN OF BREACHING URANIUM ENRICHMENT CAP

ANM News Desk:  US President Donald Trump warned Iran over its imminent breach of a uranium enrichment cap.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had earlier stated that Iran will face further sanctions in response to the expected breach of the cap set by an endangered nuclear deal reached with international powers but from which the United States withdrew last year.

The top US diplomat added that Iran’s latest expansion of its nuclear program will lead to further isolation and sanctions.

ANM News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held talks with US President Donald Trump and discussed various bilateral and global issues including Iran, 5G communications networks, trade and defence ahead of the G-20 Summit. Modi thanked Trump for expressing his “love towards India” in a letter recently delivered by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Trump congratulated PM Modi on his election victory and stated that the two countries would work together in many areas including military.

DR. S JAISHANKAR TO HOLD MEETINGS WITH POMPEO

ANM News Desk: External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar will hold talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New Delhi on Wednesday.Terrorism, H1B visas, trade and the situation arising out of US sanctions on buying oil from Iran are expected to be discussed. This will be the first high-level engagement with the US after the General Elections in India.

 Ahead of the meeting, Pompeo will call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi.

MIKE POMPEO TO ARRIVE IN INDIA AMID TRADE ISSUES

ANM News Desk: US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo will arrive in India on Tuesday for talks with government leaders over a growing list of trade and investment issues that have cast a shadow over ties between the two countries.

. Pompeo, who will meet his new counterpart S Jaishankar on Wednesday, is expected to lay the ground for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the week at a G20 meeting in Japan.

TRUMP TO IMPOSE MAJOR SANCTIONS ON IRAN

ANM News Desk: US President Donald Trump has stated that America will impose major additional sanctions on Iran in a bid to prevent the country obtaining nuclear weapons.

In a tweet, Trump wrote that the major additional sanctions will come into force on Monday. He said economic pressure will be maintained unless the leadership in Tehran changed course.

It comes after Iran announced it will exceed internationally agreed limits on its nuclear programme. The limit on its stockpile of enriched uranium was set under a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
