ANM News Desk: In a decision that has resulted in waves of disappointment, the Academy Awards for cinematography, film editing, live-action short film and makeup & hair-styling will be presented during commercial breaks this year.

The Academy’s board of governers had in August last year approved a plan to present some of the 24 awards categories during breaks in order to restrict the show’s running time to three hours.

In an email to the group’s membership on Monday, Academy president John Bailey emphasized that the Academy was “still honoring the achievements of all 24 awards on the Oscars.” He added that speeches of the winners of the affected categories will air later in the broadcast.

MARIGOLD KITCHEN, THE ICONIC RESTAURANT OF PHILADELPHIA TO SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD

From our correspondent, Philadelphia: Come January 31st and it was be the end of the road for West Philadelphia’s iconic restaurant Marigold Kitchen. Robert Halpern first started the legendary tasting menus in 2009, and it was one of the city’s first kitchens to experiment with foams and meat glues and liquid nitrogen.  Most notably, the kitchen put out some of the city’s greatest restaurant talents — Jonathan Adams (now co-owner of Rival Bros. Coffee), Erin O’Shea, and, of course, Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook.

In 2014, Halpern sold the restaurant to his two chef Andrew Kochan and Tim Lanza, who carried the multi-course tasting menus until last year when they were voted as one of Philadelphia’s best restaurant. But situation changed all of a sudden with Kochen telling close friends that there is inherent risk of involving additional finances and and it is not viable to keep the kitchen up and running for long. The iconic restaurant will die a natural death on January 31.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE BOOK SUES NETFLIX FOR MILLIONS

ANM News Desk: The publisher of the Choose Your Own Adventure book series is suing Netflix for at least $25 million over its interactive Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch. Chooseco filed its lawsuit against Netflix in a Vermont court, accusing Netflix of willfully infringing on the “Choose Your Own Adventure” trademark and claiming that the episode is so dark it will tarnish the books’ reputation.

The complaint, claims that Netflix started trying to license the Choose Your Own Adventure name starting in 2016. While the companies engaged in “extensive negotiations,” Netflix allegedly didn’t get the license.

Chooseco takes issue with Bandersnatch’s protagonist Stefan Butler describing a fictitious interactive novel (which is also titled Bandersnatch) as “a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ book,” implying it’s an official part of the series. It’s particularly upset with the reference because Bandersnatch is “a dark film” that “can include references to and depictions of a demonic presence, violent fighting, drug use, murder, mutilation of a corpse, decapitation, and other upsetting imagery.” “Association with this grim content tarnishes Chooseco’s famous trademark,” says the complaint.
