FACEBOOK TO SOON PROMOTE ‘TRUSTWORTHY’ JOURNALISM

ANM News Desk: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday stated that the social media giant was working on a ‘news tab’.

Zuckerberg stated that he sees interest in building a product separate from its personalized feed that would serve people who want news from professional media adding that the organistaions would be compensated.

Facebook has earlier been accused of enabling spread of misinformation and hoaxes. Zuckerberg mentioned that Facebook wouldn’t turn out to be a ‘publisher’, but rather a ‘partner’ for the sector.

ZUCKERBERG ASKS GOVERNMENTS’ AID FOR MAINTAINING USER PRIVACY

ANM News Desk: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has appealed governments for playing a ‘more active role’ in regulating the internet.

Facebook and other internet giants had initially resisted government intervention. However, the social network giant has reversed its policy after facing criticism for user privacy issues.

Zuckerberg stated that he would support more countries adopting rules similar to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation which give regulators, the right to sanction organizations which fail to adhere to heightened standards of security when processing personal data.

PARTIES AIM BIG THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA ADVERTISEMENTS

ANM News Desk: Political parties are gradually resorting to advertisements in social media to widen their reach.

According to Facebook’s Ad Library report, BJP and its supporters have ad spending upto Rs 8.38 crore with 34,048 number of political advertisements. BJP has various pages in Facebook including ‘Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat’, ‘My First Vote for Modi’ and ‘Nation with NaMo’.

Indian National Congress page had 410 ads and its ad spend was Rs 5.91 lakhs.

EC TO MEET SOCIAL MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES PRIOR ELECTIONS

ANM News Desk: The Election Commission on Monday told the Bombay High Court that it would set rules based on which social platforms will run political advertisements. They also have to be approved by the EC.

A poll panel will hold meeting with the representatives of Facebook, Twitter and Google today, based on the issue.

The poll panel is also developing a model code of conduct in consultation with Internet and Mobile Association of India and social media platforms.

TOP FACEBOOK EXECUTIVES TO SOON LEAVE OFFICE

ANM News Desk: Two of Facebook’s top executives will be leaving soon after the company layed out plans to form a ‘privacy focused’ social network.

Facebook Inc. announced that Chris Cox, most recently its chief product officer, and Chris Daniels, who was in charge of WhatsApp, are both leaving the company.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that he couldn’t wait for new leaders to take on new and bigger roles.

Will Cathcart, who currently heads the Facebook app, will now lead WhatsApp.

USERS TAKE TO TWITTER AFTER FACEBOOK FAMILY OUTAGE

ANM News Desk: Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp are facing a global outage for several users across the globe. “Facebook will be back soon,” the message showing to users read as they tried to login the social media site again.

Large internet platforms usually face outages but are usually solved within few minutes or an hour atleast.

Hence, users have taken to twitter sharing memes and requesting the site not to “let them down.”

Facebook acknowledged the problem tweeting , “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

INTEL-FACEBOOK JOIN RESOURCES TO WORK ON AWAITED A.I. CHIP

ANM News Desk: Intel Corp. said at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it is working with Facebook Inc. on a new artificial intelligence chip by the second half of this year.

Intel plans to takeover the hold of a fast-growing segment of the artificial intelligence computing market but will face competition from similar chips from Nvidia Corp and Amazon.com Inc’s Amazon Web Services unit.

ZUCKERBERG HAS NO PLANS TO RETIRE AMID DATA SCANDAL CRITICISMS

ANM News Desk: Despite mounting pressure from investors to step down as Facebook chairman as the social media firm faces intense scrutiny on data scandals, Mark Zuckerberg has said he has no plans to retire.

In an interview, he said this was not the time for him to quit as Facebook shares ended at $132.43 — down 40 per cent from its peak in July.

“That’s not the plan. I’m not going to be doing this forever, but I’m not currently thinking that makes sense,” said the Facebook CEO.

FACEBOOK INVESTORS PRESSURIZE ZUCKERBERG TO RESIGN

ANM News Desk: Facebook investors have increased pressure on Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to step down after an investigation suggested that the social network hired a Republican-owned political consulting and PR firm that “dug up dirt on its competitors”.

According to a report in The Guardian on Saturday, Jonas Kron, Senior Vice President at Trillium Asset Management which owns a substantial stake in Facebook,” called on Mark Zuckerberg to step down as board chairman in the wake of the report”.

“Facebook is behaving like it’s a special snowflake. It’s not. It is a company and companies need to have a separation of chair and CEO,” said Senior Vice President at Trillium Asset Management which owns a substantial stake in Facebook.
