ISRO GEARS UP FOR NEW MISSIONS IN 2019

ANM News Desk: Comedy icon Carol Burnett, who has made the audience laugh for decades, became emotional as she received an eponymous honour,  the first-ever Carol Burnett Award, a Lifetime Achievement in Television recognition — at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

The award is envisioned by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) as a companion honour to the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award which lauds lifetime achievements of film professionals.

Burnett, 85, was presented the award on Sunday by actor-director Steve Carell, who took the audience on a journey recounting the various achievements of the actress of “The Carol Burnett Show” fame.

SEVERE CYCLONIC STORM LEAVES 8 DEAD

ANM News Desk: A “very severe” cyclonic storm with the wind speed of up to 150 kmph and extensive rains hit eastern India killing eight people in Andhra Pradesh and damaged several properties.

No loss of lives were reported in Odisha, the cyclone left a trail of destruction in Gajapati and Ganjam districts of the state, uprooting trees, electric poles and damaging hutments. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Titli made its landfall near Palasa in Srikakulam district, south west of Gopalpur in Odisha with an estimated maximum sustained surface wind speed of 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph between 4.30 am and 5.30 am.

“The cyclone caused widespread damage in the coastal districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram due to heavy rains,”the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said.

According to sources, a 62-year-old woman died at Gudivada Agraharam village after a tree fell on her, a 55-year-old man died in a house collapse at Rotanasa village in Srikakulam district. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the six others killed were fishermen who had ventured into the sea.
