SC’S RULING IN UNNAO RAPE CASE IS A STAMP ON UP GOVERNMENT: PRIYANKA GANDHI

ANM News Desk: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Unnao rape case is a “stamp” on the prevailing “jungle raj” in Uttar Pradesh and the state government’s failure.

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a slew of instructions in the case, including directing the transfer of all five cases registered in connection with the Unnao rape incident from a court in Uttar Pradesh to a court in national capital.

On Sunday, the Unnao rape victim’s car was hit by a truck when she was going to meet her uncle Mahesh Singh in a Rae Bareli jail. Two of her relatives were killed in the accident, while the rape survivor and her lawyer are undergoing treatment at a Lucknow hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical.

CENTRE SEEKS REPORT FROM MAMATA GOVERNMENT OVER GROWING VIOLENCE IN STATE

ANM News Desk: The Centre has sought a report from West Bengal government on measures taken to contain political violence and investigate such incidents of violence to book culprits. Mentioning the gradually increasing number of incidents of election-related and political violence and casualties over four years from 2016 to 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs in an advisory issued to the state government stated that “unabated violence over the years is evidently a matter of deep concern.”

POLICEMAN HELD WITH 1 KG OF HEROIN IN KUPWARA

Yawar Shafi, Srinagar: While intensifying its drive against drug menace, police have arrested a cop along with nearly one kilogram of heroin in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

SSP Kupwara Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said that based on a specific input, a naka party of police yesterday evening stopped a vehicle (Alto 800 JK09A-5927) at Diver area of Lolab.

During searches, about 950 gms of narcotic substance was seized and as per tentative market value it is worth Rs 25 lakhs, SSP said. He identified the arrested person as Amjid Ali Khan son of Musa Khan of Kajerpati Diver Lolab.

MCC LIFTED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT IN KASHMIR

The ECI in a notification has said that with the results of elections already declared, the MCC ceased to be in operation with immediate effect.
