ANM News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an election rally at Rash Mela in Cooch behar. He took a dig at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stating that she was a ‘speedbreaker’ for the development in the state. The Prime Minister assured of developments in the state adding that projects worth crores had been approved for Cooch Behar by the Centre.

Following his rally in the city, PM Modi will be addressing rallies at Udaipur in Tripura at 2:25 p.m. and Imphal in Manipur at 4:10 p.m.

Dr Kumar had a word of praise for the outgoing police chief Anuj Sharma. “He is a good officer,” Dr Kumar said. The 1990 batch IPS officer is considered close to former TMC turned BJP leader Mukul Roy. He had served in various capacities as SP and DIG and went on to become additional DG, Crime, CID, a very coveted post reserved for those who enjoys the confidence of the ruling party and Chief minister. His close colleagues in the West Bengal police circles mentioned that Dr Kumar fell out of favour after crossing swords with his one time close friend the then police commissioner Rajeev Kumar. He was subsequently sidelined as ADG Pollution Control Board.

CIVILIAN SHOT DEAD IN SOUTH KASHMIR

Yawar Shafi, Srinagar: 36 years old civilian has been shot dead by Militants in Gulzarpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Militants fired upon Manzoor Ahmad Lone near Higher Secondary School at Gulzar Pora. Lone, a resident of Dogripora village, suffered serious bullet wounds and died instantly.

The body of the slain was later recovered by the joint team of police and army late in the night from the spot. It was not immediately known whether Lone, who was working in a sawmill, was kidnapped by militants before his killings.

IOC URGES OTHER SPORTS’ FEDERATIONS TO ISOLATE INDIA

ANM News Desk: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended all Indian applications to host future events including the Youth Olympics in 2026, the Asian Games in 2030 and the Summer Olympics for the first time in 2032.

It also urged other international sports federations not to stage competitions in the country after two Pakistanis were denied visas to compete in New Delhi in a World Cup event.

RAJEEV REFUSES TO TAKE BLAME. CLAIM PROBE IS A TEAMWORK: CBI

From Our Correspondents, Delhi and Shillong: Kolkata police Chief Rajeev Kumar has refused to take the blame for any lapses in investigations in the saradha chit fund case. According to CBI insiders, a much mellowed Kumar claimed that as head of special Investigation team overseeing the Saradha chit fund case, he was supervising the probe while a team of officers were interrogating the accused and carrying out day to day investigations. For the second day director CBI Rishi Kumar Shukla personally monitored the progress of Kolkata police commissioner’s grilling and exchanged views with his officers. Sources close to CBI director mentioned that Kumar admitted to a few “missing links” in investigations but claimed that he is not responsible for it. According to CBI officials, Rajeev mentioned names of his senior officers and juniors who were connected with the investigations or supervised the SIT. ANM News have been told by CBI officials that names of four serving IPS officers and two retired IPS officers have surfaced during the course of questioning of the police commissioner. In the meantime former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh has also been questioned and then made to sit face to face in a room with the police commissioner. Ghosh had made some very serious allegations of damaging of evidences against Kumar. The grilling of Kumar will continue tomorrow, CBI officials mentioned.
