MAMATA BANERJEE GEARS UP FOR AAP’S MEGA RALLY

ANM News Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Delhi on Tuesday night to take part in a mega opposition rally called by the AAP at Jantar Mantar today.

The Trinamool Congress supremo will also visit Parliament and participate in an official event in the city.

Banerjee will address the Aam Aadmi Party’s ‘Tanashahi Hatao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

RAJEEV REFUSES TO TAKE BLAME. CLAIM PROBE IS A TEAMWORK: CBI

From Our Correspondents, Delhi and Shillong: Kolkata police Chief Rajeev Kumar has refused to take the blame for any lapses in investigations in the saradha chit fund case. According to CBI insiders, a much mellowed Kumar claimed that as head of special Investigation team overseeing the Saradha chit fund case, he was supervising the probe while a team of officers were interrogating the accused and carrying out day to day investigations. For the second day director CBI Rishi Kumar Shukla personally monitored the progress of Kolkata police commissioner’s grilling and exchanged views with his officers. Sources close to CBI director mentioned that Kumar admitted to a few “missing links” in investigations but claimed that he is not responsible for it. According to CBI officials, Rajeev mentioned names of his senior officers and juniors who were connected with the investigations or supervised the SIT. ANM News have been told by CBI officials that names of four serving IPS officers and two retired IPS officers have surfaced during the course of questioning of the police commissioner. In the meantime former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh has also been questioned and then made to sit face to face in a room with the police commissioner. Ghosh had made some very serious allegations of damaging of evidences against Kumar. The grilling of Kumar will continue tomorrow, CBI officials mentioned.

TMC MLA SHOT DEAD DURING SARASWATI PUJA PROGRAMME

ANM News Desk: Trinamool Congress MLA Satyajit Biswas was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday night, police said. Biswas, the legislator from Krishnaganj in Nadia district, was shot from point-blank range in Phulbari where he had gone to attend a programme on the eve of Saraswati Puja.

He was immediately taken to a local hospital where doctors announced him “brought dead”.

State minister Ratna Ghosh and Gourishankar Dutta, president of Nadia Trinamool Congress unit, luckily survived the attack as they left the spot minutes before the firing.

RAJINIKATH SENDS INVITATION FOR DAUGHTER’S WEDDING: CONGRESS LEADER AND MATCHMAKER INVITED FIRST

ANM News Desk: Rajinikanth has been extending invitations for daughter Soundarya’s wedding celebrations. The first invitation card was given to Tamil Nadu Congress leader Su Thirunavukkarasar as he played the matchmaker. Soundarya will weds actor businessman Vishagan Vanangamudi at Rajini’s Poes Garden home.

The wedding ceremony is slated for February 11. The pre-wedding festivities are scheduled for February 9 and 10. Reportedly, Rajini’s wife Latha approached cops to provide protection during the celebrations at their Chennai residence.  It will be attended by only close friends and family members. Soundarya was earlier married to entrepreneur Ashwin Ramkumar. They divorced in 2016.

Soundarya began her career in films as a graphic designer. For those starring her father, she designed the title sequences. Soundary later became a film producer with Goa (2010). In 2014, she made her debut as a director with the film Kochadaiyaan. Soundarya’s last directorial venture was Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 (2017), starring Dhanush and Kajol.

FIRE SPARKS PANIC AT A HOTEL NEAR BENGAL GLOBAL BUSINESS SUMMIT

By a staff reporter: Fire broke out at Zone by the Park, a five star property near Biswa Bangla convention Centre in New Town even as state finance minister Amit Mitra was holding a meeting with a few foreign business delegates. The hotel is adjacent to Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, the venue of high profile Bengal Global Business Summit.

Fire Brigade sources said fire was noticed at the Spa of the hotel and was doused immediately with the help of sprinklers. Smoke however billowed from the Spa creating panic among guests. Mitra had to cutshort his meeting and fire minister Sujit Bose rushed to the spot and supervised the operation. Fire Brigade officials mentioned that the situation was brought under control within an hour. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in her chamber at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre when the incident happened.

CENTRE TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST 5 SENIOR OFFICIALS AMID CBI VS. KP STANDOFF

ANM News Desk: The Centre is likely to take action against five senior police officers of West Bengal, including DGP Virendra Kumar, for taking part in the dharna of CM Mamata Banerjee.

This may also include stripping off meritorious awards and removing the officers from the list of seniority. A similar action is also expected against Kolkata CP Rajeev Kumar.

NO LET UP IN CBI PRESSURE ON CHIT FUND CASE: NOTICE TO BE SENT TO A SENIOR TMC MINISTER SHORTLY

Avijit Nandi Majumdar, Editor-in-Chief: CBI move to interrogate Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar is just the beginning as the central agency is shortly sending notice to a senior minister in the Bengal cabinet who is also party strongman of East Midnapur district to interrogate him for his role in the chit fund scam. Highly placed sources in the CBI told ANM News that they have gathered documents and evidences against the minister and will send him notice. Sources indicated that CBI director Rishi Shukla was closeted in a series of meetings with Joint Director East Pankaj Srivastava and other senior CBI officers in Delhi.

CBI ACCUSES THREE IPS OFFICERS OF KOLKATA POLICE OF “MISBEHAVIOR” IN CP HOUSE FIASCO: PUSHES FOR ACTION AGAINST THEM

Avijit Nandi Majumdar, Editor-in-Chief: The battle of attrition between CBI and Kolkata police if far from over with the central investigative agency listing IPS officers who had obstructed CBI officers  when they had gone to the residence of city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Saradha chit fund case. Speaking exclusively to ANM News over phone from Delhi, a senior CBI officer who has been drafted into the case over night claimed that a senior IPS officer attached to STF, Kolkata police, an additional DCP attached to headquarters and a divisional DCP has been named by CBI to have “misbehaved” with the officers of the central agency. CBI has sought punishment of these officers under All India Service conduct rules. Sources indicated that CBI might file an FIR and initiate criminal proceedings and legal action against these IPS officers.

POLICE COMMISSIONER RAJEEV KUMAR AND CBI EAST ZONE CHIEF PANKAJ SRIVASTAVA IN WAR OF ATTRITION

By A Staff Reporter: It’s a war between two IPS officers. Both are top grade professionals with Rajeev Kumar, a 1989 batch IPS officer, known for his investigative skills, while Pankaj Srivastava, a 1992 batch IPS and served in several capacities in Madhya Pradesh police with distinction.

With high voltage Sarada and Narada cases gathering steam, Pankaj Srivastava was sent as joint director, CBI, East, to speed up investigations. The no nonsense IPS officer who is also known to be meticulous and spare none, Srivastava went about his job with all seriousness. The Narada and sarada cases already caught in the political web and and Srivastava tightened the leash and pushed CBI officers to take cases to logical conclusion. The TMC were crying hoarse about Central vendetta and Srivastava soon found himself caught in the political mud.

Rajeev Kumar, who has several distinction of breaking international terror modules and underworld when he was in state CID, is a decorated officer credited to have brought in large number of reforms in Kolkata police as police commissioner. He initiated investigations into Sarada and Narada cases but got embroiled into the Centre-state war of attrition. Kumar reported details of investigations to his boss, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, which made his a close confidante but earned the wreath of central agencies.
