Super Exclusive, By Avijit Nandi Majumdar with additional reporting from SIT team: Monday evening in Minneapolis. George Floyd goes to a convenience store, Cup Foods to buy cigarettes. He leaves the store and gets into the driver seat of his vehicle parked across the street in front of Dragon Wok restaurant. Moments later two employees from Cup Foods arrive to confront Floyd and his companions alleging that he had handed over a counterfeit USD 20 bill to buy his cigarettes. It was 7.57 PM. Security cameras show that two boys talking to Floyd demanding that he return the cigarettes but after a brief conversation they return empty handed. The store keeper calls 911 and lodges a complaint against Floyd mentioning that he and his companions had used counterfeit notes and were “awfully drunk.” in their vehicles. Few minutes later police car pulls over with officers Thomas Lane and J Alexander Kueng seen urging Floyd and his companions to step out of the car. In the video grab, officer Lane and officer Kueng are seen cuffing Floyd. While Officer Kueng walks him over to the pavement in front of restaurant Dragon Wok, officer Lane is seen talking to Floyd’s companions. Floyd is seen sitting down on on the pavement and then moments later officers arrest Floyd and take him to the police car across the road. The security camera grab shows Floyd falling on the ground as the two officers tries to push him inside the car. Video grab from Dragon Wok restaurant shows a second police car at the spot. Nine minutes later, another police car arrive with Officers Derek Chuivin and officer Thu Thao. Security cameras from Cup Food shows, Kueng and Chuivin get into the act of pushing Floyd into the back seat of the police car. As Floyd is pushed from one side he crushes out from the other side a falls face flat on the ground. Security cameras from Cup Foods show four officers surrounding Floyd. Three officers, Kueng, Lane and Chuivin pin him on the ground with their knees on his neck, torso and legs. It was 8.20 PM. Security cameras pick up Floyd’s voice for the first time as he compliant that he can’s breathe. Officers call for Code 2 and then upgrade it to Code 3 back up to the dispatcher, according to information available with the Minneapolis police. By now a motley group of people arrived and some of them started to film the sequence. Despite call for medical assistance, Officer Chuivin keep his knees on his neck and repeatedly asks him to get up and get into the car. Floyd keeps on murmuring that he can’t breathe and he is not able to get up. Video grabs captured by security cameras and by standers show an argument breaking out between police officers and a those who have gathered at the spot. The locals were urging Chuivin to move off from Floyd as he was not moving and suggesting that Officers check his pulse. After arrival of the medics, officer Chuivin continues to keep his knees on Floyd’s neck for full one minute despite the man becoming totally unresponsive. Officer Chuivin removes his leg only after the medics signals him to do it. Floyd is then put inside the ambulance. With his condition deteriorating, the medics call for fire department’s help. By the time fire department arrived, Floyd condition deteriorated and he died of cardiac arrest.
