CBI PINS THE FINAL NAIL IN SUVAPRASSANA PROBE COFFIN: THE PAINTER IN DOCK

From Our Correspondent, Delhi: Painter, heritage activist, journalist and part time political leader Suvaprasanna is in neck deep CBI trouble. ANM News sources at the CBI headquarters in Delhi mentioned that Director Rishi Shukla has urged investigators to expedite investigations and file chargesheet at the earliest in the Saradha chit fund case. CBI claimed that Suvaprasanna has not been able to explain a major part of the Rs 6 crore that was transferred to his account. CBI officials in Delhi claimed that several close confidants of Suvaprasanna interrogated by the CBI had confessed to the detectives that the painter used his proximity with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to curry favours. CBI sources said after reviewing Suvaprasanna’s case that there are tell tale evidences to suggest his involvement. There are chances that Suvaprasanna might be called for interrogation again as he needs to clarify about some paintings that he had bought at exorbitant prices.

SCHOOLS,COLLEGES BEGAN TO OPEN AS LIFE LIMPS BACK TO NORMAL IN FLOOD HIT BELGAUM

By AVIJIT NANDI MAJUMDAR,Editor-in-chief,ANM News:Water level has began to recede in the worst flood hit Belgaum in Karnataka and schools and colleges have started opening as life started to limp back to normal. The floods have created havoc in Belgaum with more than two lakh people evacuated and 1.61 people accommodated in 664 relief camps. Earlier Indian Navy had carried out rescue and relief operations to evacuate several stranded families. Speaking exclusively to ANM News over phone from Belgaum, union minister of state for railways and local MP, Suresh Angadi informed that situation is now under control. Angadi who is camping in the area under instruction from home minister and party working president Amit Shah claimed that compensation packages have been already been distributed to the affected families. Belgaum presented a varied picture of the flood with death and destruction at some places and hordes of villagers dancing in flood water in other areas. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa took stock of the situation and also discussed issues at the ground level with Angadi.

CBI LENS ON SENIOR IAS OFFICER IN SARADHA CHIT FUND SCAM

Avijit Nandi Majumdar, Editor-in-Chief: A senior IAS officer is now under the CBI radar. A team of sleuths from the central agency reached the office of senior IAS officer Atri Bhattacharjee for interrogation on Friday. According to CBI sources, Bhattacharjee, the then information and culture secretary, had sanctioned several allegedly “unjustified payments” to  Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund run Companies. Sources told ANM News that Bhattacharjee sought some time from CBI officers claiming that he is “extremely busy preparing some report” and is not ready with documents to provide the answers. The flamboyant IAS officer was once considered very close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He was handpicked for the home and information and culture secretary job, a post which is usually and traditionally taken up by senior and experienced IAS officers. According to state government sources, during his tenure as home secretary and information and culture secretary, Bhattacharjee allegedly made “serious errors in judgement” and fell out with a few influential ministers. Senior IAS officers mentioned that Chief Minister was not satisfied with Bhattacharjee’s functioning and replaced him with more experienced Alapan Bhandopadhayay as Home secretary.

Partho co-operated, quizzed on financial dealings: CBI

BY AVIJIT NANDI MAJUMDAR : Did Partho Chatterjee reveal a few secrets about internal financial details of Trinamul Congress to the CBI ? If CBI sources are to be believed Partho cooperated during investigations. The central agency sleuths claimed that they have got crucial details about internal financial management specially the route of Saradha money. Partho was summoned to CBI headquarters in Kolkata today for questioning in connection with the investigations into the Saradha chit fund scam. Officially, CBI said Partho Chatterjee was questioned as he is the general secretary of the party and it is imperative that he be interrogated as the agency officials maintained that they have tell tale evidences of TMC being the beneficiary of Saradha chit fund money. Asked whether Partho will be called again for questioning, CBI officer mentioned that they will verify and cross check Partho’s version and then decide on whether it is required to call him. Incidentally, Partho has been a key member of the TMC right from formative days and is considered very close to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

KMC all at sea in waterlogged Kolkata after a smart shower

BY A STAFF REPORTER : As the city reeled under water after a smart half an hour shower, TMC run Kolkata Municipal Corporation quickly went into a damage control exercise claiming that that the age old sewerage system and plastic along with excessive rains are to be blamed for intense waterlogging. Harried and hassled Kolkatans waited for hours and waded through knee deep water for buses and taxis to arrive, but KMC top brass are not convinced that it is the failure if the civic body. Municipal Commissioner Khalil Ahmed, warming the chair for more than seven years, a record by itself, told his boss and other TMC councillors that the water will recede shortly and there is nothing to worry. “Such water logging happens in all major cities and our city is no exception,” he reportedly told a councillor. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, MMIC, sewerage and drainage, Tarak Singh mentioned that 5000 hand pumps and 380 fixed pumps are draining out water. Claiming that there has been huge rainfall, Singh claimed that water level will go down shortly.

By Monisha Mondal : In what is considered a serious jolt to Mamata Banerjee led TMC administration, West Bengal BJP President minced no words in saying that a dozen senior IPS officers are in close touch with him and his colleagues. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, Dilip Ghosh mentioned that the IPS officers have informed him that cops down the line in Kolkata Police and West Bengal police are suffering from serious insecurity and are getting restless. “The officers have informed me the manner in which TMC led government is putting pressure on IPS officers to do bidding for the party,” he said. Sources close to Dilip Ghosh mentioned that there are some IPS officers currently posted in Kolkata while others are in state police. Ghosh mentioned that junior officers in Kolkata and West Bengal police are currently rudderless and slowly becoming non functional. “We are moving towards anarchy as there is a complete breakdown of law and order machinery,” Ghosh added.

INDIA POST AIMS AHEAD WITH NEW ‘E-SCOOTERS’ FOR PARCEL DELIVERIES

Monisha Mondal, Kolkata: ANM News had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Amitabha Singh, the Post Master General (PMG) of Kolkata. He laid importance on the recent modes of communication and said that people converse through mobile phones and E-mails while letters are a notion of the yesteryear. He agreed that the internet is also “a best-friend” of parcels. “In Kolkata, we are delivering almost 2000 ecommerce parcels everyday and due to the gradual increase in volumes and weight, we are engaging in E-Scooters which makes it easier for postmen to deliver parcels, ” Mr. Singh said. He assured that the postal service is going forward and that their main focus is to deliver parcels to customers on time.

Elaborating their plan on E-Scooters Mr. Amitabha Singh said,”It’s easier for the postmen who have to travel with heavy ecommerce items.” He added that the services have started in 6 routes near South Kolkata and that their plan is to extend it all over Kolkata with atleast 100 E-Scooters within the next 3 months.

KARNATAKA 11 DISTRICT HIT BY FLOOD, 11 DEAD, RAIL-ROAD LINK CUT OFF

ANM News Desk: Eleven people were killed on Wednesday as flood fury accompanied by heavy rain continued unabated in many parts of Karnataka. Almost 237 villages were affected by flood as most rivers continued to swell dangerously. As many as 28,883 people were rescued from low-lying villages in 11 districts of the state. Sixteen deaths in rain and flood-related incidents have been reported from western Maharashtra in the last seven days, while the toll in Karnataka rose to five since Sunday and nearly 26,000 people have been evacuated. Heavy to heavy rain rainfall in next 2-3 days might worsen the situation.
